A self-guided drive-and-stroll north up Virginia Street, from Midtown to the big park under the Sierra, that shows a repeat visitor the Reno behind the neon. It opens with hot pot in Midtown, then parks downtown so you can walk the heart of the tour on foot: the Truckee River the city grew along, the corner where Reno's first Chinatown burned in 1878, the Reno Arch — “Biggest Little City in the World” — and the railroad it celebrates, a line cut through the Sierra by thousands of Chinese labourers. A few steps on is the ground where that community's second Chinatown stood until 2 November 1908, when the city ordered it razed and drove roughly a hundred and fifty people from their homes — and the marker the City of Reno finally set there in 2025. Back in the car, the drive finishes at the University of Nevada and its October API Night Market, and at a 1984 Chinese pagoda in Rancho San Rafael, raised in memory of the people who built this place. History is the spine; hot pot and Asian food are the taste; the Truckee and the Sierra are the nature. Audio-first for the driver, look-first for the passenger; one short downtown walk in the middle.
🚗 This is a driving tour. Narration plays itself as you reach each stop. Keep your eyes on the road — the screen is for your passenger, never the driver.
