Here's your view. The whole Truckee Meadows is spread out below you — downtown where we walked, the thin green line of the river, and the Sierra standing up along the west. Take it in for a second.

Think back over where we've been. We started with hot pot in Midtown, drove under an arch that brags about a railroad, and learned that the railroad was cut through those mountains by Chinese hands. We stood on the corner where Reno's first Chinatown burned, and on the ground where the city tore the second one down and drove its people out in the snow — and at the marker that, a hundred and seventeen years later, finally says so. Then the university's October night market, loud and alive, and this pagoda, built to remember.

That's the Reno under the neon: a city the Chinese helped build, tried to erase, and is only now learning to honour. Thanks for driving it with us. When you head back down, maybe go find that hot pot — you earned it.
